INDUSTRIAL WORKSHOP ON THERAPEUTIC EQUIPMENT
July 25th & 26th,2017
Department of Biomedical Engineering
School of Bio & Chemical Engineering
In Association with
Bio Vision Medical Systems
The workshop is organized with the core intention of promoting competence and the quality research among the undergraduate and postgraduate students. The workshop covered a special lecture on “Scope of Biomedical Engineering”- a motivation lecture covering the roles and responsibilities of a Biomedical Engineer in the society. The participants were provided application based hands on training and preliminary troubleshooting of equipments ventilators, diathermy, defibrillators, patient monitors, syringe pumps and infusion pumps. The primary responsibility for the care and maintenance of equipment rests with the user. The participants were made to understand how their equipment works, what its limitations are, and what it can and cannot do. All of these are usually well described in the user manual that is supplied by the equipment manufacturer or supplier. In situations where surgeons or clinicians work under extreme time pressure, they may not be able to pay sufficient attention to the care and maintenance of the equipment they use. In this case, biomedical engineers can be trained in basic preventative maintenance and care; they are also responsible for reporting faults and should be included in discussions about maintenance and repair.Overall, the training of Industrial Workshop On Therapeutic Equipment was successfully conducted in close co-operation with the Department of Department of Biomedical Engineering, School of Bio & Chemical Engineering, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technologyin Association with Bio Vision Medical Systems Chennai.
